"What? Don't think I can do that?"

Personality

Jazz is quiet, independent, and will face most challenges sent her way. From pickpocketing to finishing her plate, if someone says she can't do it, she'll prove them wrong, usually while staring them down the entire time with a deadpan look on her face. This serious exterior often drives others away from her, making it difficult for Jazz to make new friends. However, if someone decides to stick around and match her stubbornness, they'd find there's someone worth knowing deep down. Buried beneath the tomboyish clothes and rough exterior is a girl who loves Jasmine flowers, tea, and food. A lot of food, actually.

Jazz isn't the easiest friend to make, though, and it takes a lot of patience to get on her good side. She closes herself off emotionally around other people, causing her to sound monotone to those she doesn't know well. Jazz's mind is stuck in the past, longing to go back to how things were, and she'll do risky things to keep her head in the present. She seeks out all kinds of excitement. From parkour to using her speed to jump across tall heights, she loves those thrilling moments that makes her feel alive! She hates telling people how she's actually feeling, and keeps people guessing on what she might do next.

Appearance

Jazz is 4'11ft and has a fit, androgynous build. She has a short scar on her nose, and a snaggletooth. She likes wearing greens, blacks, and whites, and only wears casual clothing unless she's forced to wear something else. She prefers to wear shorts. She doesn't mind wearing dresses, but only if it's around close friends. She often wears arm bandages due to her self destructive behavior.

Backstory

Content warning: This backstory contains parent death, a car crash, and mentions of self destructive behavior.

Jasmine had always stayed with her mother, Elaina, growing up. She never did get to meet her dad, and was told that he left the two of them shortly after she was born. Jasmine grew close to her mom, and loved taking care of the flowers Elaina had in her garden. The two of them would often go to Vinette Park, and Jasmine learned about the different kinds of flowers there. Elaina would took her through the wooded area behind the park, talking about how she liked going there as a kid, and showed Jasmine the open field that held all kinds of flowers.

She loved spending time with her mom more than hanging out with her friends from school. She'd talk to her school friends about what she learned, and would even bring flowers to show and tell. She learned that she was named Jasmine because that was her mom's favorite flower, and it became hers as well. When Jasmine was around nine, she and her mom were driving home after buying some seeds to plant in the garden. Elaina's car was hit, and only Jazz made it out of the wreck. It took her years to get use to going into a car again, and even now she still fears she's going to get caught up in a crash.

Jasmine was sent to the Daffodil orphanage and soon decided to go by Jazz instead of her real name. She stayed away from the other kids at first, deciding against making new friends so soon after she lost her mom. She quit talking about flowers, and kept to herself more as she tried to find ways to cope. During this time, Jazz started reading more books, and was fascinated with Cholpon's history, the Narix, and how people use to hunt. She made her own bow and arrow out of sticks and strings and loved playing around with it. She was able to keep it hidden from the orphanage staff.

Over time, Jazz eventually started getting to know the other kids at the orphanage, and even made a few close friends. While she was still quieter than she use to be, and refused to talk about her mom or flowers, Jazz enjoyed being around others again. She started getting in trouble when her group of friends started finding out their magic. She discovered that she had super speed, quickly taking advantage of it to steal snacks for herself and her friends. She started refusing to ride in a vehicle, often using her speed to travel long distances instead.

While at Daffodil, her favorite activity to do with the other kids was baseball. She had fun batting, and hit many home runs for her team! She quickly found out that taking advantage of her magic wouldn't be allowed, so she continued working on her swing instead. Whenever she was in a bad mood, she'd oftentimes be found on the field practicing.

The years passed without Jazz getting adopted, so she stayed with her friends at the orphanage, playing baseball, practicing archery, and reading more about the world's history. She became more interested in how the Great War happened, and how the Narix lived. How'd they discover magic existed before those who sided with the Blackjacks? Where'd they go? She thought it'd be interesting to find out someday. While all of this did keep her occupied, Jazz became more and more tired of living there.

Jazz started sneaking out of the orphanage during the night to zoom around Unity. She'd never tell her friends or the staff about how much her thoughts were like a weight on her, or how much she longed to go back to the days of gardening with her mom. She'd do anything to go back! Go back and fix what had happened. She wished to feel things again like she use to, and started taking her frustration out on herself. She'd bandage herself up by the time she got back, and would tell anyone who asked that she just had a small injury and handled it herself.

During her nights out, Jazz used her speed to perform risky stunts. Jumping from building to building, zooming and doing parkour, anything to make herself feel alive again. She loved the thrill! She even started to pickpocket whenever she could, and steal money so she could get something nice to eat, or buy something she wanted to get. If asked about where she got the money, Jazz's answer was always how she helped someone out. She could get things done in a flash, so she felt it was believable enough.

Jazz never thought she'd be caught by anyone, at least not for a good few years. She was confused and surprised to find out she was being adopted. After all, did people really adopt eighteen year olds? She guessed so. Jazz said goodbye to her friends, packed her stuff, and was led to her new home. She found it interesting that the one who adopted her wasn't the one she was going to live with.

Once she made it to her new home, Jazz met the person she'd be living with. She didn't know how to feel about Chance, but it did pique her interest when she found out she was adopted into the gang known as the Blackjacks. She didn't think Chance looked like he'd be one of the higher ups until she saw how the gang worked. Jazz didn't mind doing heists or stealing for them, they got her out of the orphanage after all. On her good days, Jazz would spend her time talking to Chance, doing her hobbies, or helping the Blackjacks. On her bad days, she'd lay around all day, or sneak out and frustrate Chance when she came home injured.

She got along fine with Chance, and even considered him a friend. She'd go to Galaxy Dollars, the local coffee shop, and hang out with him. They'd talk about ancient times, and about the Narix. She even played some video games with him. While she never did feel close enough to let him call her by her real name, Jazz had a lot of trust in Chance.

As a couple years passed, Jazz's moods only got worse, which led to more arguing with Chance. One day, she was fed up with it, and bolted out the door. She'd taken her bat and bow to Vinette park, and practiced in her spot. She heard footsteps, and almost shot an arrow to the person who followed her there. Why'd the barista from Galaxy Dollars follow her? Ace offered to teach her how to hone her archery and batting skills as long as Chance or any of the Blackjacks don't hear about it. Jazz asked to add a place to stay with free food on top of that. The two of them agreed, and Ace began training her.

While Jazz didn't know the reason for Ace's offer, she did take advantage of it. On days she's not getting along with Chance, Jazz will sneak off to Ace's house and hang out with him. She likes the training sessions with him, and has become more skillful with her bat and bow. Jazz had snuck around his house, and listened in to conversations Ace had with his sister, Clover. She heard how the both of them despised the Blackjacks, and sometimes wondered exactly what they may be planning. As long as she has a roof over her head and food to eat, Jazz doesn't care enough to ask.

After Chance got caught asking Clover questions, Jazz and Chance have been wanted by the Blackjacks, suspected of teaming up with Clover. She's currently hiding out with Chance at Ace's house.
