"You can't quit now. You might win a jackpot next!"
Personality
Chance is definitely a hard person to read. While he's in those casino walls, he's all smiles. Oftentimes patrons will find themselves questioning how they were convinced to play one more round, or how the dealer managed to best them in Blackjack. He tries his best to put off an innocent appearance to customers, listening to concerns, relating, and even giving advice every now and then. Usually, however, this is just to pull them in for one more draw during their winning streak. They can't lose now, right? He's often described as one of the most friendly staff in the casino with how he acts. Very few of the regulars know how he truly is.
Outside of work, Chance is actually quiet and prefers to stick by himself or those he knows well. He mainly looks out for himself, and doesn't come to trust others easily. It takes a lot to get past that faux concern and apathetic nature of his, but once you do, you'll find he can be quite kind and generous. He'll often lend money to his friends in time of need, even if they don't ask. Only his closest friends get to see his true self. Those close to him know how impulsive he can be with his decisions, how he enjoys taking care of the local cat colony in his city, and knows about some of his hobbies. Chance likes to learn about Cholpon's history and finding out new things about the Narix. When he's looking to relax, he'll often play video games to unwind. Chance tends to avoid conversation around Father's Day, and his close friends have learned not to ask about it. After all, he has a deep-seeded hatred of his father, and refuses to even acknowledge the holiday because of it.
Appearance
Chance has an average build and a height of 5'8ft. He has multiple scars on his body from an old incident, but the one that's easily noticable is the one on his face. He can often be seen either in his jacket or a casino outfit. He doesn't have a preference on what he wears, though he's drawn to oranges and purples.

Backstory
Content warning: Parent death and parental neglect
As a little kid, Chance loved learning about the world! He'd often read about the ancient Narix, or how the Great War had started. He'd tell his parents about how he'd be the first to find out exactly what happened to the Narix! He loved how his mother, Sophia would encourage him, but was frustrated when he told his father, Eric. No matter what he did or said, Eric never seemed to be proud of him. He overheard his parents talking late one night, and accidentally heard Eric tell his mother that he never even wanted a child!
Growing up, Eric would ignore him, and would even deny that Chance is his son. Chance tried telling his mother about what Eric said, but all she'd say is how they'd just need to bond. It got to the point where the two of them would avoid each other whenever they could, and act like everything was fine when Sophia was around. Chance grew to despise his father. He was much closer to his mother.
He took an interest in card games when he was younger, especially those played with another person. Sophia taught him some games, and they found out that Chance was quite lucky when it came to getting good draws. Chance later found out that he had luck magic. He'd often use it in secret whenever he wanted to win something. He was careful to not give away what kind of magic he had. When asked about his magic, Chance would only shrug, saying that he must be one of the late bloomers due to not figuring it out yet. It was perfect for when there were raffles at school! He was careful about using his magic, and only used it on things he really wanted.
As he reached high school, Chance's moods had gotten worse. He was getting tired of how Eric treated him. Sure, Eric never did anything to him, but hearing how the other students had amazing dads got to him. Why did he end up with a good for nothing kind of dad who never even wanted him?! His bad moods at home carried over to when he was in school, making it awful to be around him. He'd often get into fight with the other kids, and even picked a fight with one of his friends.
One day, when Chance was fifteen, he got into a fight with one of the upperclassmen. Chance thought it'd be the normal fist fight he always got in, but the other guy had pulled out a pocket knife. The staff didn't catch the fight in time, and Chance was sent flying out of one of the second story windows. Even though the kid was expelled, Chance would never forget him or the fight they had. His luck may have saved him, but he was left bleeding on the ground before someone found him and brought him to the nurse. While the nurse patched him up best they could, Chance still got a few scars from the whole incident. He was left with scars on his face, left shoulder, both shoulderblades, and back. The experience led to his fear of heights and distrust in others.
Once Chance came back with cuts all around him, Sophia was horrified, especially when Eric didn't show any concern. Chance overheard them that night, arguing about what happened to Chance. He overheard how his mother felt. How she'd been with Eric for so long, she couldn't stand the thought of leaving him. Chance was glad she finally believed him, and enjoyed the extra time he got with her after that day.
Once Chance made it to his senior year, his mother started getting sicker and sicker. It wasn't long after he graduated high school that she passed away. She'd left most of her things to Chance, including enough money to get away from Eric and live on his own. He didn't speak to his father after her passing, and kept to himself as his grandparents helped him find a nice house away from Eric. Chance moved far from Cheston, and found a cozy home all the way in Unity City. He quickly found a job at the local casino, using his luck to pull more customers in, and hasn't visited his father since he left.
After about a year and a half working at the casino, the staff were impressed by how many customers he managed to pull in, and how many he got to keep playing even after they spent much more than they meant to. He found out the casino was ran by the gang known of the Blackjacks, and was offered a position in the gang. He thought about the offer over the weekend. The Blackjacks? That was the group who started the Great War ages ago. There was no way this was the same one. What kind of group would take that name?
Chance thought about the offer, what he could do as a member, what the benefits were, and the pros and cons. He wouldn't be able to tell anyone about them if he declined, if he truly could say no that is. Chance accepted the offer, and even made a few real friends among the Blackjacks. He did all he could to protect the friends he had outside of the gang.
He soon wanted to be at the top. Delegating others and handling things himself sounded more interesting than doing everyone else's work. He worked hard, getting promotions and climbing the ranks. Soon, he found himself as one of the higher ups at the casino, and was satisfied with where he was. Chance stayed in his position in the gang for a whole year, doing heists and other things with the Blackjacks, and greatly helping them out with his luck.
One day, while he was out walking through the city, he spotted a blonde girl pickpocketing strangers, and took interest in watching her, thinking about how that skill could be useful to the gang. Chance brought it up with the boss, who took interest as well and set things up. Chance soon learned that the blonde was an orphan named Jasmine Saxon, and was told by the boss he had big plans for her. Chance was quick to find out exactly what those plans were when he found Jazz in his house. He was suppose to be the one teaching her, showing her how to use her pickpocketing skills for the good of the Blackjacks. While he hated that plan, Chance couldn't exactly say no, so now Chance is living with Jazz, and teaching her how to use her skills to help with the Blackjacks.
Chance had found out Clover, a former Blackjack who tried finding the gang's plans, was alive. He was caught talking to her, and was accused of teaming up with her to try and take out the Blackjacks from the inside. Chance is now hiding from the Blackjacks and took Jazz with him. The both of them are currently living with Ace, Clover's little brother.
